The first step to transforming the role of community colleges in the American landscape is elevating their status. President Obama and Secretary Duncan took a great step in the right direction today, naming Martha Kanter, chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District (California), the new under secretary for education.Stay tuned... next month the Brookings Institution will issue a paper in which several colleagues and I lay out an agenda we certainly hope Dr. Kanter will embrace and make her own.
